The Internet is an inherently insecure channel for exchanging information which leads to a high risk of intrusion and fraud. Staying secure online is a real pain at best and at worst we can really suffer the consequences by having our privacy invaded and often we can lose out financially as other people find ways to exploit us or trick us in to giving away our financial secrets. There are so many web sites we have signed up with and so many islands of our private information stored in data silos on servers all around the world. There are so many ways that bad people can get to our information because everything today is connected and we now have computers, smartphones, and a myriad of other devices all with their own security risks so it is no wonder that security breaches are always in the news.

In Nutopia there is only one computer system called the Guardian System. Unlike hardware and software today which has a long history of open software and open standards so that everything can connect to everything else, the Guardian System is a closed system. The Guardian System is a computer system which is comprised of many computer servers housed in a secure data center called the Central Computer Center. There are no computer devices outside the Central Computer Center which are able to run any software or store any data, instead Portable Access Devices and Static Access Devices are connected wirelessly or wired to the Central Computer Center and are merely "windows" on to the computer servers. No software can be downloaded, written, copied, or installed on any Access Device. To use the Guardian System using an Access Device a person has to provide their Citizen Credentials which are tied to their Portable Access Device which can only be accessed when their Citizen Identification Implant can be detected.
