Everything we manufacture or build today is created for the moment and we rarely think about proper maintenance after it is no longer new. In our wasteful society everything is created with the cheapest components in the shortest amount of time so these low quality items quickly degrade over time. The paintwork on buildings fades and makes way for mold and rot, metal railings and bridges rust, walkways have chipped and broken concrete which collect weeds, furniture is chipped and stained, and newly landscaped gardens turn to wastelands full of weeds. Nothing is ever properly taken care of because we have adopted a throwaway way of life where things can just be dismantled, discarded, dumped, and replaced. New towns, roads, bridges, buildings, walkways, furniture, and other manufactured items quickly become tattered, and broken eye-saws which cover the landscape because nothing is properly taken care of over the long term.

Today people who own or rent homes are responsible for the upkeep of the property and land. Unfortunately many homes degrade significantly over time because either the occupants are not skilled enough, they can't afford it, or they don't have the time because of our hectic lives. Paint starts to peel, metal starts to rust, wood becomes rotten, mold starts to grow, and yards become overgrown with weeds. Only a fairly small percentage of homes look as good as when they were first built and are properly maintained to last a long time.

In Nutopia everything is first created or manufactured at the very highest standard. There is no financial criteria where everything has to be made on the cheap in order for businesses to compete and be profitable, instead the goal is to build everything at the highest quality so that it will last a very long time. Everything manufactured or built is immediately put on a regular maintenance schedule in the Guardian System so that its condition will never deteriorate. If an item gets damaged with a scratch, dent, stain, crack or any other defect, then it is immediately reported to the Central Maintenance Facility who arrange for its repair straightaway. Nothing in society ever lays waste, or spoils the view because of its poor condition, everything is properly maintained so that it all ways looks in perfect condition and it lasts a very long time.

In Nutopia occupants of homes are not responsible for their upkeep. Everything in all homes is on a regular and mandatory scheduled maintenance plan. Nothing can deteriorate because it is properly maintained so all buildings, rooms, furniture, gardens, patios, and pools are in perfect condition all the time. If something needs to be tended to before the maintenance is due, then the occupant simply reports it using the Guardian System and it will be taken care of immediately by the Central Maintenance Service.
