Before
If you are like most people today, your life is probably filled with stress, uncertainty, frustration, anguish, and a certain amount of despair ranging anywhere from despondence to full blown depression. Somewhere around the turn of the 21st century it seems like we all became passengers on a runaway train and we haven't a clue how to stop it, we just cling on for our dear lives in the hope that something will change soon. We are all so much busier today and it seems that no one has any spare time to enjoy life, we are all just desperately trying to keep everything together and make it through each day in our fast-paced world.
Our kids are buried in schoolwork and homework and extracurricular activities so that they can compete against others for college. Most households now have both adults working full-time jobs, sometimes two or more jobs, all just to try and make ends meet and stay afloat. We have mountains of paperwork to deal with such as receipts, bank statements, application forms, tax returns, leases, insurance payments, school activity registrations, and much more, and we spend much of our spare time trying to manage our affairs online. Because we are all working more and more, we have less and less time for family and friends and to pursue enjoyable leisure activities. Instead, any extra time we do have, we spend on chores and other tasks just to keep everything from collapsing around us.
Many of us are buried in debt and our financial obligations just keep increasing as the cost of living goes up, our wages stay where they are, and the costs of healthcare, college, and retirement keep mounting up. Even simply trying to maintain a family home and keep it heated, and pay for cars so that we can work, and insurance so we can avert financial disaster, and every other necessary expense so that we can just try and live our lives, gets harder and harder each day. We constantly worry that with the economic ups and downs we will lose our jobs and then lose our homes and our cars and our self-respect and finally become hopelessly destitute.
After
It's hard to imagine how life in Nutopia could be so radically different from today where all people are first and foremost "happy". The basic concept of how to make people happy is really quite simple. Work only as needed, need for nothing, enjoy living. Once you eliminate the need for money and the desire to accumulate wealth and buy material possessions, instead for your entire life you are properly housed, clothed, and fed, and you spend most of your time enjoying the simple pleasures of life with family and friends, you will start to wonder just how on Earth you become a participant in that old crazy capitalist world. The truth is you had no choice, so it would be pointless to give too much thought to it, instead you should cherish the new simple slow-paced world of Nutopia where all people have happy, fulfilling, and meaningful lives in harmony with nature.
