Before

The seemingly endless conflicts around the world mean that today there are now more refugees than there were during World War II. Over 50 million people have been affected by war, and armed conflicts and they have become a huge problem as the World Food Program tries to prevent their starvation.

Other countries continue to test the ability of aid organizations to provide for millions of disaffected people as they grapple with drought and disease, and year after year the situation gets worse as the global population continues to rise, and local food production and water sources become more and more challenging.

Corruption continues to be a big issue where aid in the form of money and resources finds its way in to the hands of a powerful few instead of the desperate people on the ground. It is also often the case in aid organizations and NGOs that the management and bureaucratic representatives run up expenses with their travel, hotels, and fine dining, which takes vital aid away from the people who really need it.

There are also many people who are looking for help but will not help themselves because of social or religious beliefs. Limiting the size of families to lower the demand for resources for example continues to be controversial and while it is a difficult issue to deal with, for the most part neither the local people nor the people providing the aid are willing to address it.

After

There is no concept of aid in Nutopia. All people have the choice to either join a Nutopia community or not, but if they choose not to then they choose to survive using their own resources because Nutopia is made up of autonomous communities which provide for themselves and other Nutopia communities only. This may seem harsh but it just means that in Nutopia we focus on fixing the problems by bringing as many people in to our communities as possible rather than trying to use band aids to fix existing communities in the short term only to have the same or worse problems later. Anyone and everyone is welcome to join a Nutopia community as long as they meet the requirements for citizenship and they follow the rules like everyone else.
