It is abundantly clear that millions of people around the globe know that something is very wrong with the world we live in today. Most of us feel paralyzed and simply can't see a way out so we just try to do the best we can with the lot that we've been given, while others have taken to the streets in protest all around the world, with demonstrations such as the Arab Spring and Occupy Wall Street.
There are just so many things wrong with our society, and so many social issues and injustices, it is hard to comprehend how anything significant can change anytime soon. We are frustrated because we are trapped in a world where we are part of the problem yet we desperately want to be part of the solution. We know that our individual small efforts to change, such as buying organic food, using energy saving light bulbs, recycling our waste, and being careful with our water usage, are woefully inadequate responses to the dire predicament we find ourselves in. How can we possibly bring about the changes we want and need, when we simply can't break away from the damaging things that are entrenched in the way we are forced to live, such as burning fossil fuels for energy, industrial farming, and runaway consumer capitalism?
Our politicians and their wealthy supporters are uneasy right now. They have watched events unfold around the world where millions of people can act quickly to organize protests and challenge their rulers. The Arab Spring showed them how the collective action of ordinary people can be a force to be reckoned with, and they saw how quickly a few protesters camped out on Wall Street could turn into a worldwide movement in just a few months. But while they sit and watch the little people from the safety of their mansions and boardrooms, they take comfort in the fact that they still have absolute control over our governments and the media with their mountains of cash, so all the protesting and complaining in the world is having next to no effect on policy.
The irony is that we the ordinary people have everything we need to bring about our peaceful revolution. Our biggest advantage is our numbers, with millions of people desperate and hungry for positive change. And we now have our communications technology where we can quickly communicate with others in the comfort of our own homes, offices, and cars, instead of having to take to the streets in freezing cold weather, risking confrontation and arrest.
The missing piece is, and always has been, a viable solution, a replacement for capitalism, which people can embrace to leverage the power of our numbers, to collectively take the political and financial power away from the few who have a stranglehold on our lives. We have an opportunity to change our lives and change the course of humanity so that we are in control, not the powerful few, but the only way it will change is if people like you act now, and join others to make it happen.
