Food Production

Food is produced in a way which protects the environment and respects animals

Nutopia communities only produce food in ways that have a neutral effect on the environment and the natural world. Technology is used to maximize yield (such as farm machinery and high tech growing facilities), but damaging or risky technologies such as manufactured pesticides, herbicides, and genetically modified organisms are not used. Food is produced in the most natural way possible, and in a way that causes the least pain and suffering of other animal species.

Agriculture

All agriculture conforms to organic farming practices using methods which combine scientific knowledge of ecology and modern technology with traditional farming practices based on naturally occurring biological processes. Conventional agriculture uses synthetic pesticides and water-soluble synthetically purified fertilizers which are not allowed in Nutopia communities. All farming equipment is powered by electricity.

Aeroponics

Many of the food crops in Nutopia communities are grown in Aeroponics Farming Facilities. Growing food using large scale aeroponics facilities means that we don't need to use all available tillable land for food production.

Animal Farming

All livestock and poultry, for meat, dairy and eggs, are given "natural" living conditions and feed. Ample, free-ranging outdoor access is given to animals and crowding never occurs. Feed is also organically grown, and no drugs or antibiotics are used. Animal health and food quality are pursued in a holistic "fresh air, exercise, and good food" approach. Animals are slaughtered humanely in their natural environment so there is minimal suffering unlike the methods used to transport and slaughter animals today. The Guardian System controls the levels of demand and consumption of meat, and the supply of meat is controlled to maintain sustainable and humane livestock populations at all times.

Fishing

Fishing policies are in place to ensure that fish species are harvested at a sustainable rate, where the fish population does not decline over time because of over-fishing practices. The Guardian System controls the levels of demand and consumption of fish, and the supply of fish is controlled to maintain sustainable fish populations at all times.
